Late one night in a small Alabama cemetery, Vance Vanders had a run-in with the local witch doctor, who wafted a bottle of unpleasant-smelling liquid in front of his face, and told him he was about to die and that no one could save him.

Back home, Vanders took to his bed and began to deteriorate. Some weeks later, emaciated and near death, he was admitted to the local hospital, where doctors were unable to find a cause for his symptoms or slow his decline. Only then did his wife tell one of the doctors, Drayton Doherty, of the hex.

Doherty thought long and hard. The next morning, he called Vanders's family to his bedside. He told them that the previous night he had lured the witch doctor back to the cemetery, where he had choked him against a tree until he explained how the curse worked. The medicine man had, he said, rubbed lizard eggs into Vanders's stomach, which had hatched inside his body. One reptile remained, which was eating Vanders from the inside out.

Doherty then summoned a nurse who had, by prior arrangement, filled a large syringe with a powerful emetic. With great ceremony, he inspected the instrument and injected its contents into Vanders' arm. A few minutes later, Vanders began to gag and vomit uncontrollably. In the midst of it all, unnoticed by everyone in the room, Doherty produced his pièce de résistance - a green lizard he had stashed in his black bag. "Look what has come out of you Vance," he cried. "The voodoo curse is lifted."

Vanders did a double take, lurched backwards to the head of the bed, then drifted into a deep sleep. When he woke next day he was alert and ravenous. He quickly regained his strength and was discharged a week later.

The facts of this case from 80 years ago were corroborated by four medical professionals. Perhaps the most remarkable thing about it is that Vanders survived. There are numerous documented instances from many parts of the globe of people dying after being cursed.moreCollapse )

Take a trip to any jail or prison and you will meet hundreds of people who will tell you they are the "victims" of their circumstances.

Travel through any big city ghetto and you'll hear the same thing.

I recently opened my third eye by accident but I'm glad this happened to me. Ever since my third eye opened I have become a better person not just with people around me but with the world in general. I feel a peace I have never felt before within me, but I also have encountered many weird experiences. The weirdest one happened just 2 days ago when I was meditating in my room. After meditation I had a strange feeling about this container that was made of a metal that was shiny, the container was so clean that you could see your reflection on it. I stared at it for some reason and after 30 seconds a wolf appeared on the metal of the container, it seemed to form from the light reflected off of the container. I could see the face of the wolf from its side. Suddenly, the wolf moved and was now looking at me with a straight face with both eyes. I was amazed at what was happening. I blinked for a second and when I looked back at the metal container the wolf was still looking at me only now with a growling expression on its face. After I gave it my full concentration once again the wolf seemed to calm down and started to move from side to side. I looked away for a bit without blinking and looked at the wolf again, I saw the growling gesture on its face again. Once again I gave it my full attention since I thought that my sudden lost of concentration was what was making it mad, maybe it wanted to tell me something and was getting frustrated at the fact that I kept on getting distracted. I gave it my full attention once again and the wolf now looked at me with a straight face, suddenly everything around me became really reaaally bright. I started to feel a tingling in my body while I tried to keep my full attention on the wolf to avoid making it mad again. It was a really weird experience and I cannot remember much but I believe I heard a voice in my head, it would've helped if I had a notebook or something to write on while I was experiencing this to help me remember better. I felt an immense amount of pressure in my head and tingling in the middle of my forehead. Finally the wolf looked at me once again and turned around, I could see the wolf walking backwards and disappearing out in the "distance" from the metal container. This has been so far the weirdest experience I have had since I opened my third eye. Any ideas on what this could mean?

We all desire to have more of the good things of life. When you accept this truth, wonderful blessings will flow into your world.

In the men’s final of Wimbledon 2014, Novak Djokovic, winner of seven Grand Slams, was pitted against Roger Federer, winner of seventeen Grand Slam titles. Novak ultimately won the match and the Wimbledon title, but not without a fight. The game went to five sets with several tie breaks, and in the fourth round, Novak nearly lost to Federer.

After this round, Novack took a bathroom break and later revealed in an interview that he’d spent the break visualizing the remainder of the game and how he wanted to play. He mentally pictured his serves, returns, and strategy for winning. He came back in the fifth set and beat Federer 6-4, seizing the title.

Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps, the most decorated Olympian in history, has been using visualization since he was seven years old. During the Olympics and before any race, he visualizes every minute detail of his performance, and credits visualization for his competitive edge.

Many athletes use visualization to support their physical training and preparation. Amazingly, visualization alone can change the body without physical action involved.

In a study published in 1996 in the Journal of Sport & Exercise Psychology, researchers found that just imagining weight lifting caused actual changes in muscle activity. Other research has supported the findings that mental practice is almost as effective as physical practice.

Visualization doesn’t just work for athletes. Mental imagery can be used in daily life and on the job to relieve stress and performance anxiety, enhance preparation, and add more power to your physical and mental efforts. Visualization has been shown to impact motor control, attention, perception, planning, and memory, priming your brain for success in whatever you want to accomplish.

Want to try visualization in your own life? Here is a step-by-step guide:

Step 1: Create a specific goal or outcome

Before you can visualize what you want, you need to know exactly what that goal is. It needs to be specific, detailed, and achievable. Rather than saying, “I want a great job paying a lot of money,” your goal should be, “I want to be creative director at a top advertising agency in New York making $100,000 a year.” Your goal also must be something in the realm of possibility for achievement. If you want to be a professional soccer player, but you’re forty years old and have never played, the odds of success are slim.

Step 2: Define the actions for achievement

Brainstorm and write down all of the actions you’ll take to achieve your goal. For Michael Phelps, these actions include every stroke in the pool, every kick, every turn at the wall. If your goals isn’t athletic, you still need to visualize successfully mastering every step along the way. Outline these steps before you begin your visualization practice so you know exactly what you want to visualize yourself doing.

Step 3: Carve out the time

A visualization practice isn’t a practice unless you commit to it. Determine when you want to practice your mental rehearsals. First thing in the morning and before you go to bed are great times to practice, but you may also want to visualize before a specific event or effort toward your goal. As you get closer to reaching your goal, or if you have a big milestone to accomplish as part of the goal, you may want to pump up your visualization efforts.

Step 4: Set the mood

Every time you practice visualizing, be sure you are in the right space and frame of mind to do this mental work. If possible, visualize in a quiet room, and remove all possible distractions (phone, computer, etc.). Sit comfortably and take a few deep breaths, then mentally see a blank slate in your mind. From that blank slate, begin your visualization. If other thoughts or feelings pop up, just gently release them and turn your attention back to your visualization. If you are agitated or emotionally upset, wait until you are calm to begin visualizing.

Step 5: Begin with the end

Each time you visualize, picture the ultimate goal first. In your mind’s eye, see yourself reaching the goal or living the desired outcome. Visualize it as if it were a movie, and you are the lead character. Picture exactly what you are doing, how you look, who is around you, where you are, and how you feel. Get as specific and detailed as possible. Allow yourself to feel the feelings of success as you visualize it.

Step 6: Visualize the actions

After you visualize reaching your goal, then mentally rehearse the details of each action you need to take. If your goal is physical, like weightlifting or playing tennis, then visualize each movement. However, if your goal has many mental steps and actions involved in making it happen (like finding a new job), then visualize successfully completing the actions required for the day or week. Break the goal down into smaller actions to visualize.

Step 7: Support your mental efforts

You can boost your visualization practice by creating physical reminders that you’ve already achieved your goal. If possible, take a picture of yourself acting as if you’ve crossed the finish line. For example, if you want to work for a specific company, take a photo of yourself in front of the building. Post the photo where you can see it every day. You could also create a vision board by cutting out photos from magazines reflecting the success you want to achieve and pasting them to a poster board. Keep the vision board where you can see it daily.

Step 8: Set an intention

Rather than hoping or dreaming about success, set an intention about the goal you want to achieve. When you intend to do something, there’s a mindset of determination and finality. Notice the difference between the statements, “I hope to become president of the company,” and “I intend to be president of the company.” When you talk to yourself or others about your goal, be mindful of the language you use. Choose words of intention and inevitability rather than leaving the mental door open for anything other than complete success.

Confidence HacksVisualization isn’t a magic formula for achievement. Although you can create some physical changes through visualization alone, the practice is meant to support and accelerate your actions. The powerful combination of thought and action rewires your brain and creates cognitive changes that empower your efforts and propel you toward success.

I'm really stupid. I can tell you in advance. I think at heart, if I work at it, I can be smart. But at the moment I'm largely an idiot. I feel I have the right knowledge but I let a lot of stuff get in the way. You know: "stuff". Worries, guilt, paranoia, grudges, resentment. Like, for instance: I resent the people who resent me. I think they resent me for no reason. So now I resent them. What a circle-jerk!

I used to think when I added stuff to my brain I'd get smarter. But this is not true. For instance, if I look up when Charlemagne was born I'd just add a fact to my head which I will forget tomorrow. This won't make me smarter. Subtraction, and not Addition, is what makes the window to the brain more clear, wipes away the smudges, opens the drapes.

One example: the day I lost the deal to do Tupac's website, I had a chess lesson afterwards. I couldn't play at all. It was like I didn't even know the rules. My instructor said, "what's wrong with you today?" But I was ashamed. And angry at myself. So my intelligence went way down. Like 80% down.

This is a somewhat random and imperfect thought but I think it's worth considering.

In my opinion, based on my experience and observation, the ability of thoughtforms to manifest correlates greatly - if not completely - to the subconscious.

My reasoning is that when I've ever attempted to effect anything from the standpoint of willful, i.e. conscious intent, the result is either failure or next to nothing. It's only when a thoughtform has been repeating itself on my mental back-burner, or I've deeply internalized it as part of a personal paradigm shift, or passively become self-convinced of it as a burgeoning reality...does it indeed manifest. Whether as non-physical or physical events. Usually to a BIG and disturbing degree. Sometimes in harmful ways.

In these cases the commonality is the subconscious. And this suggests many things. For one, some weight to the idea that 'reality' is just a mental projection, a feedback loop of subconscious images. Too, that qualities like irrational expectation, superstition and even fear are far stronger than will when it comes to mind influencing matter/non-matter. Also, that whoever succeeds in controlling his subconscious mind may gain access to powers on the level of a god.

Not that it's actually controllable.

Here's a message which I'm sure you'll love, and find immediate value from.

At Planet Hollywood in New York City, there is a letter hanging on the wall that martial artist and actor Bruce Lee wrote to himself.

The top of the letter, which Lee WROTE and dated January 9, 1970, has stamped on it "SECRET." It starts out, "By 1980 I will be the best known oriental movie star in the United States and will have secured $10 million dollars."

The most interesting part of this letter, however, was the second part -- the part, often omitted when we sit down with ourselves to set goals.

Lee goes on to write, "And in return I will give the very best acting I could possibly give every single time I am in front of the camera and I will live in peace and harmony."

How fascinating that Bruce Lee wrote he would have peace and harmony after he said what he would do to obtain his goal.

There are two kinds of goals: product and process.

A product goal is what you are going to achieve, such as, "I will become a Vice President of Sales by next June," or "I will weigh 118 lbs, wear a size 2, and look fabulous on my birthday."

A process goal is what we will do to get it, which means developing a "prescription for success." This is a plan that winners will follow very closely in their daily work habits and periodically evaluate themselves on.

I hope everyone had a fabulous holiday season. Mine was wonderful, and was exactly what I needed - time to slow down, chill out, and de-stress. Besides being filled with fun and games and laughter, it was the type of holiday that provided plenty of meditation time and helped me to look inward and see how great my life really is right now. I'm going to keep up the habit of meditating daily, which I'd fallen out of, due to being so stressed out with grad school. I can't stress how important a regular meditation routine is, which most of you probably know already. Just the simple act of meditating after getting up each morning turned my life from a frenetic rat race back into a focused, enjoyable journey.

I'll post some new things soon, but wanted to say happy 2015. If anyone has experiences to share from the holiday season, recent insights, etc., I'm sure we'd all love to hear them.

hello everyone! i am new here and wanted to introduce myself. my name is Rochelle. i stumbled on this forum during a google search. i was reading about the pineal gland and astral travel. before the internet, i had several experiences that i couldnt explain. if i try to explain it to ppl around me they think i am crazy! so, i am searching for anyone who has the common interest. i would like to work on becoming more grounded before i explore on purpose...
